Literacy Connections

Literacy Connections is designed to share literacy resources with all teachers in Richland Two. Be sure to check-out the K-5 Resources' tab for general information and the grade level tabs for more specific resources. Within each tab there is a link for teachers to share ideas, resources and comments (RSD2,2015).

Fluency

Fluency is defined as the ability to read with speed, accuracy, and proper expression. In order to understand what they read, children must be able to read fluently whether they are reading aloud or silently. When reading aloud, fluent readers read in phrases and add intonation appropriately.

Phonemic Awareness

Phonics

Phonics- is a method of teaching reading  and writing of the English language by developing learners' phonemic awareness--the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate phonemes--in order to teach the correspondence between these sounds and the spelling patterns (graphemes) that represent them.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary- refers to the words we must understand to communicate effectively. Educators often consider four types of vocabulary: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Listening vocabulary refers to the words we need to know to understand what we hear.
